In 1953, when Winston Churchill was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, the citation noted his mastery of historical and biographical description. Churchill`s six-volume HISTORY OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR--which is really both memoir as well as history--was an unprecedented publishing event between 1948 and 1954.
